About the Project
The project “Artificial Hatching of Silkworm Eggs Using Cold Plasma Technology” is a collaboration between the Queen Sirikit Department of Sericulture, the Faculty of Engineering at Kasetsart University and Plasma Innovations Co., Ltd. to develop a prototype machine and a hatching process that meet real users’ needs, led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Siwapon Srisonphan.
The team developed a Gliding Arc cold plasma system with computer-controlled (CNC) motion as an alternative to soaking eggs in hydrochloric acid. Early trials found a hatching rate of about 97% in small test areas. The next step is to count results across whole egg sheets and repeat the tests before wider use.
